Vernon M. Ingram is the John & Dorothy Wilson Professor of Biology at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. In the 1950s, he discovered the amino acid mutation responsible for sickle-cell anemia while at the MRC Laboratory for Molecular Biology in Cambridge, England. His current research focuses on the use of small peptides to prevent abnormal protein folding in Alzheimer’s and Huntington’s disease. He is a Fellow of the Royal Society of London and of the American Academy of Arts and Sciences and a member of the National Academy of Sciences.
