Virginia Trimble

Virginia Trimble is Professor of Physics and Astronomy at the University of California, Irvine, and is also affiliated with the Las Cumbres Global Telescope Network. She was a Sigma Xi National Lecturer in 1974–77 and has, at various times, held assorted offices in the American Astronomical Society, the International Astronomical Union, the American Physical Society, and the International Union of Pure and Applied Physics. She is currently a member of the Council of the American Association for the Advancement of Science and received her very first honorary degree ever from the University of Valencia (Spain) in 2010. Current research interests include structure and evolution of stars, galaxies and the universe, and of the communities of scientists who study them.
