One of us works for a company that makes refrigerators—small ones. Actually, tiny ones: The largest is about the size of a postage stamp. These devices use no messy liquids or gases, have no moving parts and can reduce the temperature by as much as 150 degrees Celsius. Modern miracles? Not exactly.
