The Long View Computer Mathematics Technology Review Statistics
In the July–August 2023 special single-topic issue, we took a step back and gave the big picture of what scientific models can and can’t do well. Modeling is a technique that cuts across scientific fields and uses many different technologies, but they are not a magic box, and they are only as good as we make them. Scientists must carefully consider how models are properly conceptualized, applied, and vetted for any introduced bias. Indeed, modeling is such an integral topic to science that it has frequently been a topic of discussion in past issues of American Scientist. Below we gather some past content related to this special issue that we hope will help you expand and contextualize the topic of modeling.
