William McLaughlin

William I. McLaughlin retired from the Jet Propulsion Laboratory in 1999. He received NASA's Exceptional Service Medal for leading the mission design for the Infrared Astronomical Satellite (IRAS) and NASA's Outstanding Leadership Medal for services as engineering manager during the encounter of Voyager with Uranus. He spends the off season orbiting between Mars and Jupiter as asteroid "4838 Billmclaughlin."
