Stephen L. Macknik is professor of ophthalmology, neurology, and physiology/pharmacology at SUNY Downstate in New York City. Together with Susana Martinez-Conde, they run the Best Illusion of the Year Contest and founded the discipline of neuromagic. They coauthored the books Sleights of Mind (Henry Holt and Co, 2010), and Champions of Illusion (Scientific American/Farrar, Strauss, and Giroux, 2017).
