Jonathan Schaeffer, a professor of computer science at the University of Alberta, is the author of the checkers program Chinook, the first computer program to win a human world championship. He tells the personal side of the Chinook story in One Jump Ahead: Challenging Human Supremacy in Checkers (Springer-Verlag, 1997).
