Gregory P. Laughlin

Gregory P. Laughlin received a doctorate in astronomy and astrophysics from the University of California, Santa Cruz, in 1994, just a year before the first extrasolar planet was discovered around a Sunlike star. After completing a series of postdoctoral appointments—at the National Astronomical Observatory in Japan, the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor, the University of California, Berkeley, and NASA's Ames Research Center—he returned in 2001 to UC Santa Cruz, where he is now a professor of astronomy and astrophysics.
